Iranian actress Behnaz Jafari has been set to go on stage with 'King Lear' play.

Masoud Delkhah, the director of the play recently announced that Jafari has joined the 'King Lear' cast list.

Among the other prominent actors in the play are Akbar Zanjanpour, Rahim Norouzi, and Khosrow Shahraz.

'King Lear' is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It depicts the gradual descent into madness of the title character, after he disposes of his kingdom giving bequests to two of his three daughters based on their flattery of him, bringing tragic consequences for all.

Derived from the legend of Leir of Britain, a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king, the play has been widely adapted for the stage and motion pictures, with the title role coveted by many of the world's most accomplished actors.

Born in 1974, Jafari is a theater, television and cinema actress. She studied Dramatic Literature in the Islamic Azad University.

In 1994, she started her professional career by playing a small role in the movie ‘Blue Scarf’.

She has appeared in various TV series, including ‘The Rise of Mokhtar (Mokhtarnameh)’, ‘Scarlet Soil’, ‘Time of Rebellion’ and ‘All is There’.

Jafari has also played roles in films such as ‘Fire and Water’, ‘The Visitor of Rey’, ‘Kandelous Gardens’, and ‘A Time for Love’.

Her performance in ‘A House on the Water’ won a Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 20th Fajr International Film Festival.

‘The President's Cell Phone’ in 2011 earned Jafari a Diploma of Honor for Best Actress from the 30th Fajr International Film Festival.
